Understanding Kitout

What is Kitout?

Kitout is a free print-on-demand merchandise store platform built for Australian sports clubs. Clubs get their own branded storefront where members, fans, and supporters can buy merchandise. Orders are printed and shipped directly to customers, and payments go straight to the club's bank account.

Who is Kitout for?

Kitout is built for Australian sports clubs of any size — from weekend competition teams to state league organisations. It's designed for volunteer committee members who want to give their community a place to buy club merchandise without managing inventory, handling payments, or needing technical skills.

Is Kitout only for club members, or can anyone buy?

Anyone can buy from a club's Kitout store — not just registered members. Members, fans, families, and supporters can all shop. Clubs share a public storefront link, and anyone who wants to support the club or wear their colours can place an order.

What sports does Kitout support?

Kitout supports all Australian sports. Clubs in water polo, rugby, soccer, netball, cricket, hockey, AFL, basketball, swimming, surf lifesaving, touch football, and rowing have all used the platform. Any sports club can create a store regardless of sport.

Is Kitout available outside Australia?

Kitout is currently available for Australian sports clubs and uses Australian dollars (AUD). International expansion is not currently planned.

Getting Started

How do I set up a club merch store with Kitout?

Setting up a Kitout store involves four steps: create a free account, enter your club's details and upload your logo, connect your bank account via Stripe for direct payments, then choose your products and designs. The whole process takes approximately five minutes.

How long does it take to set up a Kitout store?

Most clubs complete setup in under five minutes. There is no waiting or approval period — once setup is complete, the store is live and open for orders immediately.

Do I need technical skills to use Kitout?

No technical skills are required. Kitout is designed for volunteer committee members, not developers. If you can fill in a form and share a link, you can create and manage a Kitout store.

Do I need a designer to use Kitout?

No. Kitout includes a curated library of professional designs that are ready to print and apply to merchandise. Clubs can also upload their own artwork — logos, crests, and sponsor graphics — if they prefer custom or branded designs.

Cost & Payments

How much does Kitout cost?

Kitout is free to use. There are no setup fees, monthly subscription fees, or minimum order requirements. Kitout deducts a 1% fee from each order to cover operating costs. Production and shipping are charged at cost from the fulfilment provider.

Why does Kitout charge a 1% fee?

The 1% fee covers the cost of running the platform — servers, infrastructure, and payment processing. Kitout is built as a community benefit, not a for-profit business. The fee is designed to cover operating costs only; no profit is extracted from the platform.

How does my club get paid?

Clubs connect their bank account via Stripe Connect during setup. When a customer places an order, Kitout deducts the production cost, shipping cost, and 1% platform fee, then pays the remainder directly to the club's connected bank account.

Is there a minimum order amount or sales requirement?

No. There are no minimum orders and no sales thresholds. Customers can buy a single item at any time, and clubs are not required to reach any sales target to receive payment or maintain their store.

Products & Designs

What merchandise can clubs sell on Kitout?

Clubs can sell printed apparel and merchandise including t-shirts, hoodies, polos, hats, bags, and more. The available product range is provided by Kitout's print-on-demand partners — Printful, Printify, and Gelato — who also handle fulfilment.

Can I upload my club's logo or crest?

Yes. Clubs can upload their own artwork including logos, crests, and custom designs and apply them to available products. There is no requirement to use Kitout's design library — clubs with existing brand assets can use them directly.

What print-on-demand providers does Kitout use?

Kitout integrates with Printful, Printify, and Gelato — three of the largest print-on-demand fulfilment providers globally. These providers handle printing, quality control, packaging, and shipping directly to customers.

Orders & Fulfilment

How are orders fulfilled?

Orders are fulfilled by Kitout's print-on-demand partners — Printful, Printify, or Gelato. When a customer places an order it goes directly to the fulfilment provider, who prints and ships the item to the customer's address. Clubs never handle inventory, packaging, or shipping.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery times depend on the product and the customer's location. Most Australian orders are delivered within 5 to 10 business days of the order being placed.

What happens if nobody buys anything?

If no orders are placed, the club owes nothing. There are no fees, no minimum sales requirements, and no penalties for low sales volume. Clubs can keep their store live indefinitely at zero cost.

What happens if there is a problem with an order?

Kitout's support team handles order issues including misprints, damaged items, and delivery problems. Contact Kitout via [email protected]. Fulfilment providers typically cover reprints or replacements for defective or incorrectly printed items.

About Kitout

Who built Kitout?

Kitout was built by people who love community sport. It was created to give Australian sports clubs a better way to sell merchandise — without financial risk, without technical complexity, and without a platform extracting profit. The 1% fee covers operating costs only.

Is Kitout a for-profit business?

No. Kitout is built as a community benefit. The 1% fee is designed to cover the cost of running the platform, not to generate profit. The goal is to give every Australian sports club access to a proper merch store, regardless of size or budget.
